Pink Bathroom Re-Vamp

Our duplex originally belonged to The Mr's great-grandma. She was such a sweet and very FANCY lady. Her very favorite color was pink, and you could tell.
When we bought the house, it had pink walls, a pink tub and shower, pink flowers on the bathroom sink, and a pink flowered toilet. Not to mention the pink curtains and pink silk flowered decorations.

Now, I don't want to seem snobbish. I truly loved how cute she tried to keep her house, and I really loved how stylish she was. She had such pride in her house, and that's something I really loved about her, and I hope I can have pride in my home too.

Here's a view of the PINK bathroom when we moved in.
Don't mind the baby in the tub.

The (sideways) flowered sink

And, a woman's throne, if I've ever seen one.
(I always tease my little boy when he uses the toilet... I tell him to make sure he doesn't pee on those pretty flowers! It's actually been good!)

Anyway, it needed some changin'!

The first thing we did was rip up the blue carpet.
Why does ANYONE think carpet in the bathroom is a good idea?

Let me just settle it right here. Carpet in the bathroom is a BAD IDEA. Especially with kids splashing in the tub and learning to use the toilet.

When The Mr pulled out the toilet and found this.
And this, my friends, is why I let The Mr do the dirty work. GAG!

Before we  The Mr. put in the tile, I painted the vanity chocolate brown.

We were going for a brown-pink theme.
Soon it will be white.
Isn't it funny how you can think something looks good (and maybe it does look good) at one time, and then just a short while later, wonder WHAT you were thinking! Maybe it's just me!

The Mr laid new tile. Very skillfully, I might add.

Isn't he a cutie? Yes, he's taken!

After the new tile, we lived with the bathroom as-is for about a year and a half.
That was about a year and a half too long.

The walls had to be painted. Had to be! But I was stuck. What goes with a pink tub and flowers everywhere else?
mmmmm..... Nothing.

Plus, who wants to tape, and patch, and pull out the toilet (gag) just to paint?
Not me.
But, I had to suck it up!

I knew I wanted to do something clean and fresh, and since our bathroom is so teeny-tiny, I wanted it to be BRIGHT! The chocolate brown I had in there had not helped the situation, and I needed it out!!!!!

I saw this picture on beadboard.com and fell in love.

After some arguments about whether or not The Mr was really on board about doing this for me helping me with the project, I went to Home Depot and bought the paint, and painted during naptime.
When The Mr got home from work, this is what he found:

This love note will forever be under our beadboard... Awww.

Yup, I did it all by myself. Thanks to the ShurLine paint tool, I didn't even tape. I know, it rocks!

The Mr must have learned his lesson, because the next Saturday, he offered to help put up the beadboard for me! Really, I did a minimal amount of work. He was a champ, and I love him for helping me with my crazy projects.

I decided (against the advice of The Mr) to have the beadboard go up 5 feet instead of 4 feet, as was suggested to me. I love how tall it is. I really think it makes it seem bigger.
We also got a new, VERY bright light, and a new cabinet/ mirror, which gives us more storage space.

And, for now, that's as far as we've gotten.
I really don't mind the blue with the pink. I was worried it would be baby-ish, but so far, I just love how clean and crisp and fresh it feels.

But, we aren't done yet!

I still need to do a final coat of white paint (since I realized AFTER we put up the beadboard that I had painted it with primer instead of paint! Duh!)
And, of course, we The Mr needs to add the trim.

We are close, though!

I can't wait! I'll post pictures when we're 100% finished.
